Assam Governor attends World Sanskrit conference : Revisits the importance of Sanskrit

Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria attended the World Sanskrit Conference at the Sanatan Dharma Sabha premises in Mangaldai today.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the three-day conference organized by the Lokabhasha Prachara Samitih, Governor Shri Kataria said, “Sanskrit is the most ancient language which represents our nation’s culture, heritage, glorious tradition of knowledge and also science, philosophy and art. Sanskrit is the symbol of our culture. Due to its rich literature and grammar, Sanskrit is an invaluable source of study, research and scientific knowledge. Therefore, the language should be preserved and promoted at every level.”

Shri Kataria said that in ancient India, the best centers of Sanskrit learning existed at places like Kashi, Takshashila and Kanchi. During almost the same period, Panini created grammar in Takshashila, Kautilya propounded classic texts related to state and social order through economics and ethics, and Ayurveda expert Maharishi Charak composed the basic code of medicine. Many prominent western scholars have noted that the style of the writings of thinkers like Plato and Plotinus is similar to the style of the Upanishads written years before them. This can be called the influence and contribution of Sanskrit at the global level, the Governor added.


The Governor also said that the World Sanskrit Conference is to expand Sanskrit academically and organizationally and hoped that the Sanskrit language would be improved through the discussions and deliberations held in various sessions of the conference.

The Governor also hailed the efforts of the Lokabhasha Prachara Samitih, established in the year 1983 at the divine abode of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath in Puri, Odisha, for working dedicatedly in the field of promotion of Sanskrit language.

Sanskrit scholar Pujya Bhadreshdas Swami of the BAPS Swami Narayan Sanstha Gujarat, president of the conference Dr. Sadanand Dixit, Vice Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies university Prof. Prahlad R. Joshi, Prof. of Nepal Sanskrit University, Kathmandu. Kashinath Neopane along with a host of other dignitaries and Sanskrit scholars were also present in the function.
