Centre confirms impact on 3000 families near baghjan blowout site.

During the parliament monsoon session on Monday, Septmber 14, the Centre confirmed the Baghjan blowout as a mishap in nearby affected areas of the BGR 5 well. Following the blowout, another blast happened on June 9.

While replying to a Lok Sabha question, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said that approximately 3,000 affected families were evacuated and sent to rehabilitation camps.

"In order to prevent such accidents in future, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are also being re-visited for making improvements, if any," Dharmendra Pradhan informed Lok Sabha on Monday in written replies to questions relating to the Baghjan incident.

Pradhan further informed that 42 mishaps from refineries and oilfields/wells from oil and natural gas companies across the company have been reported by the Oil Industry Safety Directorate (OISD) since 2017-18.

Confirming no casualty of nearby residents, Pradhan also added that Oil India Limited has lost three of their employees till date while working on-site.
