Workshop on providing IT platform in Villages

Guwahati, APRIL 28: A daylong workshop on Village Knowledge Centre, Broadband and Citizen Service Mission under Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY) was held on April 28 at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara, Guwahati.

Inaugurating the workshop, Assam Minister for Information Technology Keshab Mahanta said that the present Government is making all efforts for providing IT infrastructure throughout the state of Assam with special emphasis on the rural areas. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed on the substantial use of Information Technology to make Assam technologically advanced and to adapt the latest technology for upliftment of the society. Minister Mahanta further stressed on digital literacy at the village level and informed that the Village Knowledge Centre will be the entry point of the Mega Mission viz. Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY). The Minister also seeks cooperation for timebound implementation of Digital Literacy Agenda of the present Government.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of Guwahat IIIT Prof. Gautam Baruah suggested the  Government to prepare plans in such a way so that it could be implemented by adapting new and latest technology. Prof. Baruah further suggested for developing of data content in local languages so that the rural people could be able to take the benefit in actual terms. 


Attending the workshop, Additional Chief Secretary in-charge Finance V B Pyarelal and Additional Chief Secretary in-charge Information Technology Alok Kumar in their speech spoke on various aspects of the mission of transforming the rural economy and providing of IT platform to all. 

In the daylong technical session, representatives of various Government and Non- Government organisations like NABARD, Yes Bank, Vodafone, SAHAJ e- village, NIC, NESAC and Akruti on their presentation elaborately discussed abouts the process of bringing digital skills to villages, getting Digital Technology to villages etc.

Earlier MD of AMTRON M K Yadava welcomed the participants and gave a brief outline about the roadmap of the new mega initiative of the present Government.
