Sikkim Girl donates Covid testing kits worth Rs.40 lakh to her state from South Korea.

Smriti Gurung working as a researcher in South Korea has collected and donated 2,000 Covid testing kits worth around Rs. 40 lakh for her home State of Sikkim.

Smriti, who hails from Lower Arithang, have successful completed her PhD studies in biomedical science under Kyungpook National University, School of Medicine, Daegu, South Korea in August.

She is currently posted as a post-doctoral researcher in the same university.

During her research, Smriti came in acquaintance with Seegene, one of the top biotech firms of South Korea.

“Seegene is one of the country’s finest biotech firms which make testing kits to detect coronavirus. More than 30 countries across the world use the company’s kits.

During my research work I came across the regional manager of the company, I got an opportunity to get 2,000 testing kits,” said Smriti when contacted by Media.

“After getting the testing kits, I thought of sending it to Sikkim for the benefit of our people. The 2,000 Covid testing kits worth around Rs. 40 lakh were dispatched on October 8 to Sikkim with help of the distributors in India,” said Smriti.

The testing kits reached Gangtok on Tuesday.

Smriti’s father Robin Gurung handed over the testing kits to the STNM Hospital medical superintendent the same day.

Smriti added that she was regularly hearing from her parents about the Covid pandemic situation in Sikkim.
