Ex-Assam CM Tarun Gogoi’s oxygen saturation dips; stable, say doctors

Oxygen level of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who is undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College, dropped on Monday night, and was given plasma therapy.


Senior officials of Guwahati Medical College told Northeast Now that at around 11.30 pm on Monday, Gogoi’s oxygen level suddenly dropped to 88 percent, and was having problem with breathing.Gogoi on August 25 tested positive for COVID19, and was admitted in Guwahati Medical College Hospital the next day.


At 2.20 am on Tuesday, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “Ex CM Tarun Gogoi who is admitted in GMCH for Covid 19 had a sudden fall in Oxygen saturation to 88% at 11.30pm.The team of doctors supervising his health immediately decided to give 1 unit of plasma with 2 litres of oxygen on Mask. Oxygen saturation now is maintained between 96 to 97%.”.Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had rushed to the hospital past midnight to oversee Gogoi’s treatment, and directed the doctors to take special care of the veteran politician.“I was there with Sri Tarun Gogoi in the hospital and just reached back home as I have assembly tomorrow. Also had a telephonic conversation with @GauravGogoiAsm. I shall remain in touch with our team at @GMCHGuwahati,” Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted at 2.21 am.

Tarun Gogoi’s wife, Dolly Gogoi had tested negative, and is still in isolation at home. His son, Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha is in New Delhi and is attending to his wife, who delivered a baby girl last week.
