Assam schools to partially re-open from sep 21

Guwahati: Schools in Assam would open from 21 September but this would be only for classes 9-12, Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday. This is in keeping with the Union Health Ministry's guidelines. Sarma informed that students of class 9, 10, 11 and 12 can attend the schools from 21 September with written permission from their parents or guardians. The minister also stated that fifty percent of the teachers will attend the schools for now.

To prevent the spread of dreaded coronavirus through schools, the minister said that the government will ensure the sanitisation part and the students will have to bring their own masks. In its guidelines for Unlock 4.0 issued in August, the Centre has allowed schools to partially re-open after September 21. The pandemic has significantly disrupted educational systems across the nation, leading to closure of schools, universities and colleges since March.
