Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi tests positive for Covid-19

India reported 67,151 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and 1,059 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 3,234,474, according to the Union health ministry's dashboard. Globally, India is the third worst-hit nation from the pandemic. India may overtake Brazil sometime in the next two weeks if the cases continue to grow at the same pace.



Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi took to Twitter on Wednesday to inform that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Tarun Gogoi said that he tested coronavirus positive on Tuesday. "I have been tested Covid-19 positive yesterday. People who came in contact with me during last few days, they should go for Covid test immediately," he tweeted.

 Tarun Gogoi's family member said that he is now in home isolation and his health condition is good.

On Tuesday, two more Assam MLAs had tested positive for the new virus.

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Congress MLA Ajanta Neog were suffering from fever and were tested positive for Covid-19.

Assam reported 1,973 coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours, taking the state tally to 94,592.

Out of the new cases, 510 cases were detected in Kamrup (Metro) district, 149 cases in Cachar district, 132 cases in Jorhat district, 121 cases in Kamrup (Rural) district, 116 cases in Dibrugarh district.

 Meanwhile, eight more persons died due to the deadly virus in the state in last 24 hours, taking to the state death toll to 260.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: "1973 Covid cases detected today out of 34,307 tests done in last 24 hours. Positivity Rate- 5.75 per cent. Kamrup M- 510, Cachar- 149, Jorhat- 132, Kamrup (R)- 121, Dibrugarh- 116."
