RAW providing safe haven to Pakistani Taliban chief, says breakaway faction spokesman

Karachi: The Pakistan military on Wednesday released a statement of the spokesman of Jamaatul Ahrar (JuA), a banned militant group in which he has claimed that Afghan and Indian intelligence agencies have been using and funding Pakistani Taliban (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) to launch terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, who was captured last week by the Pakistan military, said in a video confession that Indian intelligence agency RAW and Afghan intelligence agency NDS have provided safe heavens to terrorist organisations in Afghanistan.

Ehsan was spokesman of JuA, a breakaway faction of the Taliban, which is responsible for major terrorist attacks in Pakistan over the past two years. Hundreds of people were killed in Wagah and Gulashan Iqbal Park attacks in Lahore and two major attacks in Quetta in 2016.

Clad in salwar kameez, Ehsan claimed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Mullah Fazlullah — Pakistan’s most wanted man — is being given safe heaven by RAW and NDS.

Military spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor in a tweet said that Ehsan exposed hostile foreign agenda and their designs to destabilise Pakistan.
