Dispur, April 19: Directing the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) to achieve its target of providing employment at the rural areas so that the state’s youth do not have to go out of the state, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that the government is committed to provide meaningful employment to the unemployed within the state at an early date.
Chairing the governing body meeting of the of ASRLM at the Chief Minister’s Conference Room at the Janata Bhawan today, Sonowal said that the 88 thousand Self Help Groups (SHGs) registered with the ASRLM must be activated fully and provide financial assistance to them as per the norm of the Mission so that youths in the rural areas can find employment.
Identifying establishing linkage with banks for providing finance to the SHGs and giving access to market for selling their produced goods as two key points for the ASRLM for bringing actual development in interior places of the state, Sonowal said that employment requirement of the state’s youths must be assessed to provide skill training.
“If we can provide actual required skills to the youth to find employment within the state then only the youth would be interested to take training and the training would actually be fruitful for the youths. We must not give training to the rural youth for producing watchmen who would go and work in a faraway place outside the state for paltry sum of money staying away from his family.” Sonowal said.
Underlining women empowerment as a key objective of the government Sonowal said that banks must come forward for encouraging women entrepreneurs and all women SHGs by providing hassle free finance through simplified procedures so that women can be encouraged to earn livelihood.
Talking about the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) which aims to add diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and cater to the career aspirations of rural youth, Chief Minister Sonowal said that industry majors like Ramdev’s Patnjali and Dabur have already set up bases in the state and they would need lots of organic agricultural raw products for which rural youth can be encouraged to take up organic cultivation by providing finance and skills.
The Chief Minister also directed the ASRLM to convene review meetings every three months to check the progress of the various schemes.
Additional Chief Secretary Industry and Commerce Ravi Capoor, Additional Chief Secretary WPT & BC Rajib Bora, Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Lohya, MD ASRLM Nandita Hazarika and other top officials were present in the meeting.
