Apple Watch 2 is expected at Cupertino’s event today, where the iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus will also be unveiled. In case of the Apple Watch, the screen sizes are expected to remain the same, but will feature a thinner display. It is expected to carry forward the rectangular design of the first Apple Watch, but is expected to come with a slimmer frame thanks to the new display.

Earlier reports have suggested that Apple Watch 2 will come with a faster TSMC built processor, and come with features like GPS, barometer, a higher capacity battery and improved waterproofing.

Apple Watch 2 was expected to come with LTE support, but it looks unlikely for now. A smartwatch running LTE will drain a lot of battery, and since the new device is expected to be thinner – there might not be a lot of room for the extra battery. Apple has always shown interest in making its devices thinner, LTE might be left for the Apple Watch 3.

The first Apple Watch launched in 2015 quickly became the best selling wearable gadget in the market space. It was launched in India six months after its global launch in November 2015 at Rs 36,999. It was priced significantly higher than what it retailed for in US – $349 (approx Rs 22,600 at the time). The watch features Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and comes with 512MB RAM and 8GB ROM. Sensors on the device include heart rate monitor, gyro and accelerometer.

An IDC report in July has said the smartwatch market is in decline – with shipments falling to 32 per cent in the second quarter of 2016. The data was compiled by IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker. Apple Watch held the top spot in the market, with 1.6 million watches sold in the quarter. The total smartwatches shipped in that time was 3.5 million. The second in the list was Samsung, with 6,00,000 units sold.

There are a lot of smartwatches out there that support the iOS device platform, but to have the true seamless experience, Apple claims that you need to invest in the Apple Watch.
