NEW DELHI: The Union minister in charge of education may need to brush up on his history.
A video clip from earlier today shows the minister Prakash Javadekar saying - "SC Bose, Sardar Patel, Pandit Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru sabhi phaansi par chade."
That is, Javadekar is shown saying - "SC Bose, Sardar Patel, Pandit Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru all were hanged." The Union HRD minister probably meant to laud the country's freedom fighters, but unwisely chose to bunch them up together.
The HRD Ministry has so far not been a very lucky one for the NDA's BJP ministers.
The first HRD minister of this government, Smriti Irani, was shunted out in a cabinet reshuffle some months ago. Analysts said she might have been a ''loose cannon'' running roughshod over many.
Javadekar was being seen as less flamboyant but capable nevertheless. Perhaps history just isn't his strong suit.
