There is no respite from the flood situation in Assam. Rains in catchment areas in neighbouring Bhutan have flooded parts of Bongaigaon and Chirang districts and over 84,000 people have been affected in Bongaigaon.
The army has been deployed in rescue mission at Chirang.
Flood alert has been sounded in Dhubri district for the next 24 hours. Nearly 3 lakh people are reeling under floods in 9 districts.
Flood and erosion took serious turn in Lower Assam. Surface communication badly affected due to flood.
Boats have been pressed into service in relief and rescue works. Flood alert has been sounded at some areas in Dhubri district for the next 24 hours.
Bridge washed away at Lakhimpur
The flood situation in Assam worsened on Saturday following incessant rainfall in the upper catchment areas of Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh.
Most of the roads were damaged or affected, while several others either partially or fully submerged, the sources said, adding, many road embankments had been eroded and approaches of bridge and culverts washed away by the flood water.
The flooded Jiadhal river washed away a bridge at Gogamukh, connecting Majuli, while many families were rendered homeless.
Rising water of the Brahmaputra has inundated vast tracts of land in Kaziranga̢۪s Burapahar, Bagori and northern parts of Agratoli. Erosion has also started on Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.
The situation in the world̢۪s largest island was also grim with the water level of the Brahmaputra flowing above the danger level at Majuli, Kamalabari, Nematighat and Jhanjimukh affecting over 60 villages.
